Michael has over fifteen years experience with organizations dedicated to community services and education. Michael received his undergraduate degree in History from Bethel College, N. Newton, KS, and is currently enrolled in the Master of Science in Health Care Leadership at Friends University, Wichita, KS. Michael joined the Envision team in 2001, as Manager of Vision Rehabilitation Services and Outreach. He has managed the staff efforts of Envision’s vision rehabilitation professionals in the programs that include Orientation and Mobility, Low Vision Therapy, Vision Rehabilitation Therapy, Assistive Technology, and Job Placement. In 2004, Michael was promoted to directing the marketing, outreach, and continuing education programs for the Envision Rehabilitation Center. Michael is widely recognized in the community and the state for advocacy and gaining resources for people with vision loss: he continually represents Envision to the local Area Agencies on Aging, Kansas Optometric Association, Kansas Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, Kansas Department on Aging, Special Education Cooperatives, wellness and minority coalitions, Kansas Rehabilitation Services, and is actively involved in outreach and educational presentations on a state and national level.
Michael leads several efforts in managing the educational outreach efforts on vision impairment for Kansas. As a current Member, Division I Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired, (AER), Michael is also the President of the Kansas AER chapter providing continuing education to ACVREP certified professionals. As a Past-President of the State chapter of the National Rehabilitation Association, Michael helped to direct several conferences on best practices in vocational rehabilitation. Michael is also active in organizing continuing education activities on vision rehabilitation and neuro-optometric rehabilitation for the Kansas Occupational Therapy Association, and lead Envision’s effort to become an Approved Provider of Continuing Education of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Michael is the Director of Continuing Education for the annual Envision Conference on vision rehabilitation and vision research.
